On 20 March 2019, Ambassador Danai Karnpoj, H.E. Bonifacio Mau Coli, Vice Minister of Health of Timor-Leste, Dr. Rajesh Pandav, WHO Representative to Timor-Leste attended the opening ceremony of Global Health Workshop for senior officials of Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste.
The three-day workshop was a multilateral cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy, WHO Timor-Leste, Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste and Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. It aimed to increase awareness on global health issues, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Three experts from Thailand were invited to conduct the workshop, namely: Dr. Viroj Tangcharoensathien, Dr. Warisa Panichkriangkrai and Miss Orana Chandrasiri from International Health Policy Program. 34 Senior officials from Ministry of Health attended the workshop. Dr. Viroj is a highly respected researcher and policy advocate, specializing in health economy and global health issues. He was one the architects behind the creation of the Universal Health Coverage scheme of Thailand. He received Edwin Chadwick Medal and Sam Adjei Award for his dedication and achievements in the field of public health. In 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy held a similar training on Dengue Case Management and Prevention, with the results showing much higher understanding by Timorese health workers on the issue.
