On 29 March 2019, H.E. Mrs. Christine Schraner Burgener, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of her visit to Thailand after visiting Myanmar. 
 
On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on the recent visit by the Special Envoy to Myanmar, the visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to Myanmar on 7 – 8 March 2019 and the visit to Myanmar by the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ERAT) of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) to conduct a preliminary needs assessment in Rakhine State during 4 – 13 March 2019. The Special Envoy expressed readiness to support Thailand and ASEAN.  
 
Mrs. Christine Schraner Burgener was the Ambassador of Switzerland to Thailand during 2009 – 2015. Mrs. Burgener is highly respected by the international community for her vast experiences in and understanding of the Southeast Asian region. This is the second meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Special Envoy since she has assumed office in April 2018.
