On 20 September 2018, H.E. Ms. Saida Muna Tasneem, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand paid a farewell call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, upon the completion of her tenure in Thailand. The Foreign Minister commended the Ambassador’s active roles in strengthening the relations between the two countries. Both sides noted the recent exchanges of high-level visits, such as the Royal Visit of H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to Bangladesh in May 2018, the visit of Dr. Kobsak Pootrakool, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office of the Kingdom of Thailand, to Bangladesh, in May 2018, and the visit to Thailand by H.E. Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in March 2018.

                 Both sides discussed opportunities to further enhance bilateral cooperation, with a view to promoting trade and investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, as well as enhancing connectivity through existing regional frameworks especially BIMSTEC, and other on-going connectivity projects.

                 Both sides were content with the increasing cooperation between Thailand and Bangladesh, especially the significant growth of trade volume between two countries in recent years. Therefore, both sides shared the view that an early launch of FTA negotiations could help achieve bilateral trade target of USD 2 billion by 2021. The Ambassador expressed her appreciation for the continued technical and development assistance rendered to Bangladesh. She also expressed confidence that Thailand can exert a greater role in addressing regional issues during the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019.
