On 15 June 2018, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka, in coordination with Ashiya Cosmopolitan Association (ACA), organized “Thai Cooking Class” at Ashiya Municipal Shio-Ashiya Exchange Center in Ashiya in which 30 registered participants took part.

The participants learned to cook 3 kinds of Thai dishes with “woon sen” (Thai vermicelli) as the main ingredient namely “Suki Haeng” (Thai Style Fried Suki), “Goong Ob Woon Sen” (Baked Prawns with Vermicelli) and “Yum Woon Sen” (Vermicelli Salad). They also learned to make Tao Suan (Sweet Mung Bean Porridge with Coconut Cream), a Thai dessert. The “Thai Cooking Class” was instructed by Mrs. Prapinsri Tubkaew, Chef of the Consul-General’s residence and Mrs. Tassanee Muraki, Director of Tassanee Thai Culture Center, Hyogo.

In his welcoming remarks to the participants, Mr. Munin Paniswasdi, Consul-General of Thailand in Osaka, emphasized the objectives of the Thai Cooking Class to create better understanding about Thai food, to introduce Thai food with ingredients readily available locally in Japan in order to encourage the participants to try to cook Thai food at home. Besides, it was a cultural exchange activity through food culture to help strengthen Thailand-Japan relations especially at people-to-people level which is the solid foundation of sustainable close and cordial relations between Thailand and Japan.

The Consul-General also joined the participants in having a luncheon of Thai food proudly cooked by the participants themselves.
