From 1 until 7 June 2018, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata, organised and participated in the ‘Thai Festival Week’, which consisted of culture and trade promotion events with active participation and support from a number of Thai and Indian private sectors. The details are as follows:

1. 1 June 2018, “the Inauguration” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General inaugurated the Thai Festival at the Loft, Quest Mall, Kolkata’s leading department store. Photography exhibition, demonstrations of Thai art and Thai massage, as well as Thai food from 4 five-star hotels in Kolkata, Thai product displays and Thailand Foundation’s Street Food Mobile Application were promoted during this event. Moreover, the lucky draw of Thai airways round trip ticket for the route Kolkata-Bangkok-Kolkata was also part of the highlights of the inauguration.

            Participants in the inauguration, approximately 100 in total, were Kolkatans of the ‘inner circle’ who are the targets of Thailand’s luxury tourism, local press agents, and members of 11 Consulates-General based in Kolkata. Ms. Venus Asawapoom, Acting Consul-General, was the host of the event, and Mr. Deepak Adhikari, known as ‘Dev’, Kolkata’s number-one superstar and member of Lok Sabha (Indian Parliament) was invited as the Chief Guest. Members of the team Thailand who joined this event were Mr. Kris Theerarak, General Manager, Thai Airways International, Kolkata Office, and Mr. Isara Sathapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi Office.

2. 2 June 2018, “the Thai Festival” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General organized the Thai Festival for the general public at the ground floor of the Quest Mall, with a photography exhibition, Thai floral garland making demonstration, Thai fruit carving demonstration, quizzes and a visa clinic for those who wish to travel to Thailand. About 500 persons were welcomed throughout this event.

            The activities on 1 and 2 June 2018 were sponsored by Thai Airways International Plc., Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi Office, Quest Mall Department Store and 5 five-star hotels in Kolkata: (1) ITC Sonar (2) JW Marriott Kolkata (3) The LaLiT Great Eastern, (4) The Oberoi Grand and (5) The Park Hotel.

3. 2-7 June 2018, the “Thai Food Week” – Thai food cooking demonstrations were scheduled, and special Thai dishes are made available at the 5 participating hotels: (1) ITC Sonar (2) JW Marriott Kolkata (3) The LaLiT Great Eastern, (4) The Oberoi Grand and (5) The Park Hotel.

4. 1-7 June 2018, “Thai Product Corner” – Spencer’s, the City’s leading supermarket chain, arrranged a Thai Product Corners at its branch in the Quest Mall, and distributed PR materials about the 40 Thai food recipes on Thailand Foundation’s Youtube Channel, in order to increase popularity about Thai food and Thai products during the said period of “Thai Food Week”.

5. 4-5 June 2018, “Thai Fruit Carving Classes” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata, organised Thai fruit carving classes for 20 Indian participants, with kind help and assistance from Chef Ananchai Suttison, from the five-star The Park Hotel, as the teacher.
