On 4 May 2018, H.E. Mr. Lyu Jian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, upon assumption of his duty.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the momentum and long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, particularly the frequent exchanges of high-level visits. They reaffirmed that Thailand and China will work closely to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and looked forward to further strengthening even closer and more tangible cooperation between the two countries at bilateral, regional and international levels. They also exchanged views on key regional issues such as the situation on the Korean Peninsula. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Thailand’s readiness to host the 6th Thailand – China Joint Committee on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation within this year. Ambassador Lyu Jian emphasized China’s support for the active role of Thailand as Chair of the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) for the year 2017 – 2018, and for Thailand’s upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2019 as well as the host of APEC in 2022.

Thailand and China established diplomatic relations in 1975. Both sides have enjoyed close and cordial ties, and cooperation between the two countries has continuously expanded in many areas of mutual benefits. Currently, China is Thailand’s largest trading partner and ranked 3rd in terms of foreign investment. Thailand is now the top foreign destination for Chinese travelers, with 9.85 million Chinese tourists visiting Thailand in 2017.
