The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will co-host the 5th Green Mekong Forum on 12 February 2018 at Vie Hotel Bangkok, Thailand. The said forum will be co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Director-General, Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Mr. Fumio Shimizu, Deputy Director-General for the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The forum is part of the activities under the Mekong – Japan Cooperation Framework, aimed at highlighting the importance of sustainable growth and economic development as well as addressing common challenges faced by Japan and the Mekong countries including Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.

The Forum will focus on “Sustainable Mekong” (climate change and renewable energy) and “Water Resources Management and Disaster Risk Reduction”. Keynote speakers are representatives from government agencies, international organizations, and academic institutions from Japan and the Mekong countries.

Participants will exchange views and best practices on environmental issues and challenges facing the Mekong region, in line with the Mekong-Japan Cooperation Framework’s “Action Plan for ‘A Decade toward the Green Mekong’ Initiative”, adopted at the Second Mekong-Japan Summit in 2010.
