On 14 December 2017, H.E. Mr. Joseph Yun,  United States Special Representative for North Korea Policy called on H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 
 
The meeting was constructive during which both sides exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. On this occasion, Mr. Yun thanked Thailand for its compliance with the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. He also reaffirmed U.S. Secretary of State’s position that the United States is determined to resolve the tension on the Korean Peninsula through a diplomatic solution and dialogue. In this regard, Deputy Foreign Minister Virasakdi underscored the commitment of Thailand to see peace on the Korean Peninsula. He also reiterated that Thailand has complied with the relevant UNSC resolutions which imposed sanctions on North Korea.  Moreover, Thailand supports the rising call by the international community on North Korea to return to the negotiation process in order to reduce tension and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, which will lead to sustainable peace and security in the region.
