In order to effectively implement the outcome of the Ninth Meeting of The Thailand – Myanmar Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) held in July 2017 and to jointly discuss work plan of the JBC and its Mechanisms for the coming year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the Meeting of the Secretariat of the JBC on 28 November 2017, co-chaired by Directors of Boundary Divisions of both countries. The issues discussed included the placement of temporary weirs in the Mae-Sai River in Chiang Rai province, part of which forms the common boundary between Thailand and Myanmar, and the application of Technical Guidelines for Construction of Revetments in Moei and Kra Buri rivers.

Thailand shares the longest common border with Myanmar, 2,401 kilometres, in comparison with her other neighbouring countries. The JBC is a joint mechanism entrusted with the task of survey and demarcation. It has held nine formal Meetings since 1993, with Thailand hosting the most recent one in July 2017.
