On 9 October 2017, General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Honorary President of Thailand – Cambodia Friendship Association, presided over the Royal Kathin Ceremony, graciously granted by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, to the congregation of Buddhist monks, led by Samdech Preah Agga Maha Sangharajadhipati Tep Vong, Great Supreme Patriarch (Maha Nikaya Sect) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at Preh Pudh Kosha Char Temple in Phnom Penh.

Over 500 Thai and Cambodian Buddhists attended the ceremony. High-ranking representatives from Cambodia included Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, who is also the President of Cambodia - Thailand Friendship Association, H.E. General Neang Phat, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, H.E. Mr. Ung Sean, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and H.E. Mrs. Eat Sophea, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Mr. Darm Boontham, chargé d’affaires a.i. and spouse and members of the Team Thailand in Cambodia also attended this important event.  At the end of the ceremony, the donation worth THB 1,013,873.73 was given to the temple, which consisted of contributions from His Majesty the King, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand – Cambodia Friendship Association as well as Thai and Cambodian Buddhists

On 8 October 2017,  a kathin celebration was held at this temple in accordance with the local tradition, which was presided over by Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Hundreds of devout local Buddhists attended this event, which was graced by the participation of Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Arunrasmy, the youngest daughter of His Majesty King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

Since 1995, the Royal Kathin Robes have been bestowed by the Thai Monarch, at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to be presented to Buddhist temples in Thailand’s neighboring countries in Southeast Asia and other Asian countries.  This year marks the 19th Royal Kathin Ceremony in Cambodia. The ceremony was warmly received by Thai and Cambodian Buddhists, who were profoundly appreciative of royal benevolence.  Also, the Royal Kathin Ceremony was a testimony to the deeply rooted bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two countries, based on common cultural heritage including a shared faith in Theravada Buddhism.
