On 1 March 2017, H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, is scheduled to attend the launch of the “South-South in Action – Sustainability in Thailand: Experience for Developing Countries” publication and an exhibition on “The Lifetime Journey of the World’s Development King and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for SDGs” at the United Nations Office in Geneva during his attendance of the High-level segment of the 34th session of the Human Rights Council and related side events. The launch will be organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).

In the publication series entitled “South-South in Action” Thailand shares its experiences and best practices in promoting sustainable development through development assistance and projects based on the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP). It also illustrates Thailand’s efforts in South-South and triangular cooperation, and its journey from aid recipient to an emerging donor country. In addition, the publication promotes Thailand’s successful initiatives in development and highlights the significance of SEP as one of the guiding principles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The publication was initiated by the UNOSSC as a platform for developing countries to share experiences on South-South cooperation for sustainable development, with a view to providing encouraging examples for other developing countries to engage in South-South cooperation as well. Thailand was chosen by the UNOSSC as the first country to publicize its journey under the Publication Series entitled “South-South in Action”.

Following the publication launch, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize “The Lifetime Journey of the World’s Development King and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for SDGs” exhibition presenting His Majesty the late King and his royal duties in the field of development as well as the development principles of SEP in achieving SDGs. It is expected that these events will be attended by high level officials and experts from different countries and entities of the United Nations.

This launch in Geneva will be the second official launch of the South-South in Action publication series. It was launched for the first time on 12 January 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
