On 30 April 2020, H.E. Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of his assumption as Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand. Both sides expressed satisfaction on the state of bilateral ties which have grown stronger and stronger throughout over 60 years of Thai-Nepali diplomatic relations and agreed to continue working closely together in the next decades to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to the Nepali Ambassador and Government of Nepal in facilitating the repatriation flight for the Thai nationals stranded in Nepal due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. He also noted that Thailand and Nepal have close people-to-people contacts and Nepal has increasingly become a popular destination for Thai tourists who wish to visit Buddhism sites. The Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Thailand’s readiness to increase bilateral trade with Nepal and cooperate closely with Nepal in multilateral forums such as Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).
The Ambassador of Nepal thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for continuously supporting the work of the Embassy of Nepal. He also expressed his readiness to collaborate closely with the Thai Government to enhance cooperation in potential areas such as agriculture, tourism, cultural exchange and public health. Both sides agreed to work on the resumption the Thailand-Nepal Joint Commission Meeting as well as exchange of high-level visits.
