Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Kingdom, hosted Dinner in honour of Professor David Mabey, Prince Mahidol Award Laureate 2019 in the field of public health, for his continuous and relentless efforts to control and eliminate trachoma blindness for more than 30 years which has improved the livelihoods of millions of people worldwide

On 12 March 2020, H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Kingdom, hosted Dinner in honour of Professor David Mabey, Prince Mahidol Award Laureate 2019 in the field of public health, at the Mittra Samakhom Ballroom, Royal Thai Embassy. The Ambassador congratulated Professor David Mabey on receiving the Award and commended his outstanding research. The continuous and relentless efforts of Professor David Mabey to control and eliminate trachoma blindness for more than 30 years has improved the livelihoods of millions of people worldwide. The award conferred upon this year’s Laureate reflects a close cooperation in the area of medicine and public health between the Kingdom of Thailand and the United Kingdom including the founding of the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit and The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine office at the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.

The Dinner was attended by representatives from the United Kingdom including the Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom, guests from the fields of medicine and public health, academics, media, the Royal Thai Embassy officials, Thai physicians and researchers in the United Kingdom and representatives from the Thai community.

The Prince Mahidol Award, under the Royal Patronage, was established in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla, on 1 January 1922, the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of the country who made tremendous contributions to modernising Thailand’s health and medical care. The Award is conferred upon individuals and organisations for their outstanding and exemplary contributions to the advancement of the world’s medical and public health services. The Award serves as an example of Thailand’s determination in promoting medicine and public health in the international arena.
