H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, will attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat during 16 - 17 January 2020 in Nha Trang, Viet Nam. The Meeting is the first ASEAN ministerial gathering under Viet Nam’s Chairmanship in 2020 under the theme “Cohesive and Responsive”. This year, Viet Nam will focus on the mid-term review of ASEAN Community Blueprint 2025, and strengthening of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

During the Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers will follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the 33rd and 34th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits held in Bangkok during Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019. They will also discuss various issues of common concern, such as strengthening ASEAN Community building, reinforcing ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture, fostering relations with external partners, and discussing regional and international developments.

Thailand, as ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development cooperation, places importance on promoting the Complementarities Initiative between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including reporting the progress on the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) in Thailand. Thailand will also work closely with other ASEAN Member States to strengthen border management cooperation in ASEAN, aimed at safeguarding the region from transnational crimes and other cross-border challenges.
