On 9 August 2019, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, presided over the Ceremony to unveil the AirAsia’s Airbus 320 aircraft featuring Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship Logo and “Sustainable ASEAN Tourism” livery at the Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) Hangar, Don Mueang International Airport. Mr. Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, delivered the welcoming remarks.

The Ceremony was attended by several other Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of AirAsia Affiliates, namely AirAsia X, Thai AirAsia, AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Indonesia, and AirAsia Philippines, and Mrs. Mingkwan Metmowlee, President of the ASEAN Tourism Association. Other attendees from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand include

H.E. Mr. Tharit Charungvat, Head of ASEAN Task Force, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi commended AirAsia for its role in supporting Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019, and its efforts in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in ASEAN. This livery is an outcome of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand’s collaboration with AirAsia, underlining the spirit of “partnership” and “sustainability,” in line with Thailand’s Chairmanship theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”. The livery is aimed to raise public awareness of Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship, especially among the Thai and foreign travelers across ASEAN, which makes up the majority of this aircraft’s destinations. H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi also noted that through making air travel more accessible and convenient, AirAsia has played a key role in connecting people in ASEAN.

Mr. Tony Fernandes emphasized AirAsia’s ongoing initiative to promote environmental sustainability by supporting sustainable tourism that upholds value and beauty of local arts and culture. These efforts had helped create jobs and income for the local communities, enabling them to develop and prosper in a sustainable manner.

Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship Logo and “Sustainable ASEAN Tourism” livery will remain on this aircraft for the next 3 years, helping to spread the image and cultivate the memory of Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship across the ASEAN region.
