Department of American and South Pacific Affairs received a donation of 5,000 disposable face masks from Mr. Natthapol Prakoonsuksapan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Peru in Khon Kaen for distribution to the Thai community and medical personnel as well as other agencies in Peru and other Latin American countries to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 7 October 2020, Miss Kundhinee Aksornwong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, represented the Department to receive donation of 5,000 disposable face masks from Mr. Natthapol Prakoonsuksapan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Peru in Khon Kaen.

The Honorary Consul expressed his sympathy on the continued COVID-19 outbreak in Peru, with more than 800,000 cumulative cases of the COVID-19 infection. He also emphasised his commitment to distributing disposable face masks to the Thai community in Peru, as well as personnel in medical field and other agencies in Peru and other Latin American countries to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this regard, the Deputy Director-General expressed her appreciation to the Honorary Consul for his commitment and good will on this matter which would help enhance better understanding and further strengthen relations between Thailand and Peru.

The Deputy Director-General also touched upon the recent and upcoming activities organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Latin American countries to cope with COVID-19, including the donation of the blueprint of emergency transport ventilator produced by King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Thailand from the original blueprint of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as well as a planned webinar in the following year to share Thailand’s knowledge and experiences in dealing with COVID-19 to member countries of Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

In addition, Thailand and Peru are discussing the activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, which will commence on 10 November 2020.
