เมื่อวันที่ ๙ พฤศจิกายน ๒๕๖๖ นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน พร้อมเจ้าหน้าที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้เยือนโรงเรียน Maidstone Intermediate School ณ Upper Hutt ตามคำเชิญของนาย Wikus Swanepoel ครูใหญ่ โดยคณะได้รับการต้อนรับในแบบพิธีของชาวเมารี ผ่านการร้องเพลงและการแสดงระบำฮากา โดยเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้หารือเกี่ยวกับการดำเนินโครงการและกิจกรรมด้านการศึกษาและการเเลกเปลี่ยนด้านเยาวชน ซึ่งโรงเรียนมีความประสงค์ที่จะขยายเครือข่ายกับต่างประเทศ และรับนักเรียนต่างชาติรวมถึงนักเรียนไทยมาร่วมเรียน
ทั้งนี้ คณะจากสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้เยี่ยมชมการเรียนการสอนและพบหารือกับนักเรียน ซึ่งลักษณะเด่นของโรงเรียน Maidstone Intermediate School คือมีนักเรียนชาวเมารีและเชื้อชาติชนเผ่าหมู่เกาะแปซิฟิกกว่าร้อยละ ๔๐ และมีการเน้นกิจกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับวัฒนธรรมและประเพณีของชาวเมารีร่วมอยู่ในการสอนด้วย
On 9 November, Mr. Waravuth Pouapinya, Ambassador of Thailand to New Zealand, and the Embassy staff visited the Maidstone Intermediate School in Upper Hutt, upon invitation of school principal, Mr. Wikus Swanepoel. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the students, who prepared a Maori-style welcoming performance for the Ambassador.
Maidstone Intermediate School's student body is comprised of over 40 percent Maori and Pasifika, and Maori cultural activities and customs play an important part in the school instruction. Following a tour of the student classes and school facilities, Ambassador and Mr. Swanepoel discussed ways to promote educational cooperation and youth exchange between Thailand and New Zealand, as the school is keen on expanding international linkages and receiving international students, including Thai students, in future.
