To commemorate the “Chulalongkorn Day" in honour of His Late Majesty King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V) the Great Memorial Day on 23 October 2023, Ambassador Waravuth Pouapinya led the Embassy staff, along with the Thai Community in New Zealand, to perform merit-making ceremonies to express their gratitude and appreciation for the remarkable contributions of His Late Majesty King Chulalongkorn the Great to Thailand and the Thai people, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Wellington. His Majesty's dedication has left an indelible mark on Thailand's advancement and well-being.
Throughout the reign of King Chulalongkorn, the King was committed to the development of Siam to be stable, peaceful, and happy. He is indeed revered and cherished by the Thai people for his contributions to the nation. His Majesty, the King traveled extensively. Abolish the common slave system and develop the nation to be prosperous. He utilized the knowledge and technology he acquired during his travels abroad to modernize the country. This included advancements in infrastructure, transportation, and public utilities, such as the introduction of telegraph and postal services. King Chulalongkorn's reign is remembered as a time of progress, transformation, and modernization. With His Majesty's wisdom and wide vision, he modernized the nation to overcome the dangers of colonialism. With the infinite grace of His Majesty together with all Thai people, They all bowed in remembrance and honor of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn's grace. He is honoured as "Somdet Phrapiyamaharaj" which means (the Great King Much Beloved).
