เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ ๑๖ สิงหาคม ๒๕๖๗ คณะกรรมการ ASEAN Committee in Wellington (ACW) ซึ่งประกอบด้วยสถานเอกอัครราชทูตประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียนที่ตั้งอยู่ ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้แก่ ไทย ฟิลิปปินส์ อินโดนีเซีย มาเลเซีย สิงคโปร์ และเวียดนาม ได้ร่วมกันเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดงานเลี้ยงรับรองอาหารกลางวันเนื่องในโอกาสเฉลิมฉลองครบรอบ ๕๗ ปี การก่อตั้งอาเซียน ที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน โดยมี Ms. Deborah Geels ตำแหน่ง Deputy Secretary, Americas and Asia Group กระทรวงการต่างประเทศและการค้านิวซีแลนด์ เป็นแขกเกียรติยศจากรัฐบาลนิวซีแลนด์ และมีผู้เข้าร่วมงานกว่า ๑๐๐ คน จากสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎร คณะทูตานุทูต ภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน ภาควิชาการนิวซีแลนด์ และผู้แทนชุมชนอาเซียน

นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ในฐานะประธาน ACW ได้กล่าวสุนทรพจน์เกี่ยวกับความสัมพันธ์อาเซียน - นิวซีแลนด์ และ Ms. Deborah Geels แขกเกียรติยศได้กล่าวตอบ จากนั้น ผู้เข้าร่วมงานได้ร่วมกันรับประทานอาหารและเครื่องดื่มประจำชาติอาเซียนต่าง ๆ จากซุ้มที่จัดขึ้นภายในงาน และร่วมชมนิทรรศการ และการแสดงจากไทย 

นิวซีแลนด์เป็นประเทศคู่เจรจา (Dialogue Partner) ที่เก่าแก่เป็นลำดับที่สองของอาเซียน โดยมีสถานะเป็นคู่เจรจาตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. ๑๙๗๕ มีการกระชับและขยายความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกันอย่างต่อเนื่องในทุกมิติมาโดยตลอด ทั้งการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ สังคมวัฒนธรรม และในระดับประชาชน ซึ่งปัจจุบันมีการดำเนินความสัมพันธ์ตามแผนปฏิบัติการยุทธศาสตร์ Plan of Action to Implement the Joint Statement for ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership ๒๕๖๔-๒๕๖๘ ผ่านกิจกรรมและโครงการความร่วมมือในหลากหลายสาขาที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อประชาชนทั้งสองฝ่าย โดยจะฉลองครบรอบ ๕๐ ปี ความสัมพันธ์อาเซียน - นิวซีแลนด์ ในปี ๒๕๖๘

On 16 August 2024, the ASEAN Committee in Wellington (ACW), which comprises six ASEAN diplomatic missions based in Wellington, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, jointly hosted a Lunch Reception to celebrate the 57th Anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, at the Royal Thai Embassy. Ms. Deborah Geels, Deputy Secretary, Americas and Asia Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was the Guest of Honour of the Government of New Zealand, which was attended by over 100 attendees from diplomatic corps, New Zealand public, private, and academic sectors, as well as ASEAN community representatives.

In his capacity of ACW Chair, Mr. Waravuth Pouapinya, Ambassador of Thailand to New Zealand, gave a speech on ASEAN - New Zealand relations, which was followed by a reply speech by Ms. Deborah Geels, the Guest of Honour. Guests then sampled culinary delicacies from ASEAN countries and viewed exhibition booths and performances from Thailand.     

New Zealand is the second oldest Dialogue Partner of ASEAN (since 1975), and has continually enhanced cordial relations with ASEAN in all dimensions encompassing political, economic, and socio-cultural. Both sides currently cooperate through various projects and initiatives under the Plan of Action to Implement the Joint Statement for ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership 2021-2025, which aims to benefit the peoples of both ASEAN and New Zealand. The two sides will commemorate 50 years of dialogue relations in 2025.
