เมื่อวันที่ ๓ มีนาคม ๒๕๖๗ นายวราวุธ ภู่อภิญญา เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเวลลิงตัน ได้มอบหมายให้นายวีร์ ชาญสง่าเวช ที่ปรึกษา เป็นผู้แทนกล่าวสุนทรพจน์ในพิธีเปิดการประชุมพุทธเถรสมาคมโลก ครั้งที่ ๑๑ ซึ่งจัดขึ้นที่วัด Quan Am Buddhist Monastery นครโอ๊คแลนด์ ตามคำเชิญของ Venerable Thich Phuoc An เจ้าอาวาสผู้ก่อตั้งวัด และรองประธานพุทธเถรสมาคมโลก โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมในพิธีเปิดกว่า ๖๐๐ คน
พุทธเถรสมาคมโลก ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี ค.ศ. ๑๙๖๖ ณ กรุงโคลัมโบ ประเทศศรีลังกา มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายแลกเปลี่ยนแนวคิดและหลักปฏิบัติระหว่างนิกายและชุมชนพุทธต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลก รวมถึงแนวทางดำเนินการเผยแพร่พระพุทธศาสนาผ่านกิจกรรมพระธรรมทูต ผ่านการประชุมสัมมนาและหารือร่วมกันระหว่างคณะสงฆ์จากประเทศสมาชิกกว่า ๒๐ ประเทศ โดยเป็นครั้งแรกที่การประชุมดังกล่าวจัดขึ้นที่ประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ และหัวข้อหลักของการประชุมในปีนี้คือการอนุรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อมเพื่อการอยู่อาศัยร่วมกันอย่างสงบสุข การสวดมนต์เพื่อสันติภาพโลก และการลดภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติ (“Environmental Restoration for Harmonious Co-existence, Praying for World Peace and the Reduction of Natural Disaster”) ทั้งนี้ สามารถศึกษารายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับพุทธเถรสมาคมโลกได้ที่ https://www.wbsc886.org/en
On 3 March 2024, Mr. Vee Chansa-Ngavej, Counsellor, represented Mr. Waravuth Pouapinya, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to New Zealand, in attending and delivering the Ambassador’s congratulatory message at the Opening Ceremony of the 11th General Conference World Buddhist Sangha Council, upon invitation from Venerable Thich Phuoc An, Founder and Abbot of Quan Am Buddhist Monastery in Auckland. Approximately 600 persons were attending the ceremony.
The World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC) was founded in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1966, with the objective to develop exchanges of Buddhist religious and monastic communities of the different traditions worldwide, and help to carry out Dhammaduta, or Dhamma diplomacy, activities for the transmission of Buddhism worldwide. The WBSC presently has membership from over 20 countries. This is the first General Conference to be held in New Zealand, under the theme “Environmental Restoration for Harmonious Co-existence, Praying for World Peace and the Reduction of Natural Disaster”.
