On 17 November 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs had a bilateral meeting with the Honorable Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, during the Secretary of State’s visit to Thailand to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting during 16 – 17 November 2022. The Secretary of State commended Thailand’s leadership and success of the APEC Host Year, reaffirming the U.S. readiness to build upon the cooperation that Thailand has initiated during its APEC Host Year in 2023.

Both sides underscored the importance of and reaffirmed the readiness to advance multi-dimensional cooperation in line with the Thailand – U.S. Communique on Strategic Alliance and Partnership, signed on 10 July 2022, particularly in enhancing economic engagements, strengthening supply chain resilience, addressing climate change, and promoting clean energy and sustainable development. The U.S. side commended Thailand’s efforts to promote the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Model and both sides were pleased with progress made on the cooperation related to climate and environmental issues. Both sides also reaffirmed the readiness to work together on the commemoration of the 190th anniversary of Thailand – U.S. diplomatic relations in 2023.


On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on important global and regional developments, particularly the recent developments regarding the situation in Myanmar and the roles of Thailand and ASEAN, as well as the situation in Ukraine. They also deliberated on enhancing regional cooperation through existing mechanisms, especially ASEAN, Mekong sub-regional cooperation frameworks, and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF).
